New roof is rotting in front of our eyes

The previous owner had put up new roof. According to advice that we have gathered it is supposed to be storm proof and of very good quality. Tin roof with stone-chip overlay. From distance looks like tiled roof. Like with everything that we look at around the barn there is always a "but".

The soffits of the house were not completed, started but as with most things just left. Roof battens were sticking out at the end, completely exposed to elements and rotten. The roof is bowed and reason not known.

We looked at scaffolding hire options but due to long work schedule that was dependent on my brother's availability hire was out of question. Purchase was far too expensive. So we went on the old route of building one ourselves out of wood. North end of the house was treated as priority due to exposure.

Once access was secured we started closer inspection of battens, situation was worse that initially thought. Overhanging ends were cut off and we saw that the rot had penetrated to under roof metal. In some areas additional support had to be added to avoid future issues with the roof. The ends of the battens were given antifungal treatment and left waiting for soffit completion when weather was drier and warmer.
